Here’s the first of my photo-heavy posts. I went twice to Senso-ji Temple and it was undoubtedly one of my favourite places in Tokyo. It’s Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple and was originally built in the year 628 but was destroyed in a bombing raid during 1945.
I took several hundred photos but I’ll only share a few highlights with you! Senso-ji Temple is two very different places, depending whether you go during the day or the evening. During the day there are more tourists than worshippers and at night, more locals who come to pay their respects after work. (And, of course, plenty of photo-hunters like myself can also be found at the temple at night!).
I’m dividing these photos up into two posts: night and daytime. Although the temple was definitely less crowded at night, it did prove quite challenging to get photos without tourists and selfie sticks in! Patience is key. You just need to wait for the perfect moment to fire off the shutter.
So here is Senso-ji Temple at night. My day-time photos will feature plenty of kimono-wearers!
